About

Western Maine Transportation Services (WMTS) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) regional transportation provider offering reliable, accessible public transit across Androscoggin, Oxford, and Franklin Counties, as well as Bath and Brunswick. Established by statute in 1976, WMTS was created to improve mobility in rural and underserved areas with a focus on older adults, individuals with disabilities and people with limited incomes. Our services are open to the public and designed to meet a wide range of needs, including commuting, medical appointments, errands, and more.

We operate a variety of transit options to suit your schedule and mobility requirements-including fixed and flex routes, commuter services, and demand-response transportation. All WMTS vehicles are wheelchair accessible, and trained staff are here to ensure every rider has a safe, comfortable, and inclusive experience.

Our Team

WMTS employs dedicated drivers, dispatchers, and support staff who are carefully screened and trained. All drivers undergo:

State credentialing by the Maine Departments of Health and Human Services, Motor Vehicles, and the Bureau of Investigation

Driver receive training In Passenger Assistance, Children’s Transportation and Safety Restraints, First Aid/CPR, Bloodborne Pathogens, and Driving Dynamics

All drivers, maintenance, scheduling & dispatch personnel are subject to pre-employment and random drug and alcohol testing

WMTS is supported by local, state, and federal funds, and proudly partners with community organizations, including United Way of Western Maine. Thanks to this support, eligible residents can access rides for medical appointments, shopping, and other essential travel.

We believe public transportation should be for everyone. Our vehicles are fully accessible and open to all-with or without mobility devices. Riders who require assistance are encouraged to let us know when scheduling a ride so we can ensure appropriate support is available.

We are currently hiring with immediate openings for the following positions:

  • CDL Drivers with “P” endorsements
  • Maintenance and Utility Staff
    • Full time, part time, and seasonal opportunities available!
    • These positions are typically scheduled Saturdays and late afternoon/evenings Monday-Friday.
  • Intake and Dispatch representatives who are detail-oriented, patient and personable, comfortable working on computers and able to handle an exceptionally fast-paced and high-pressure work environment.
  • Drivers with a Class C License – to transport passengers in Class C vehicles.

Fleet Mechanic/Technician

  • Diagnose trouble on diesel and gas engine vehicles
  • Perform preventative maintenance on buses and transit vehicles
  • Maintain service and repair records
  • Respond to road calls and service

Custodian

WMTS is looking for a custodian to work a schedule that does not interfere with the work of other staff.  Duties may include:

  • Facility cleaning, maintenance and repair
  • Groundkeeping (year-round)

Utility

WMTS is looking for a utility worker to work an afternoon shift in the maintenance facility. Duties may include:

  • Vehicle cleaning
  • Assisting custodian
  • Assisting mechanics
  • Grounds work
  • Light Vehicle and Facility repairs
